2009 City & Regional Planning alumni came back to Philadelphia for a weekend celebration of their 10th Reunion.
On Friday, June 28, a group of 2009 City & Regional Planning alumni came back to Philadelphia for a weekend celebration of their 10th Reunion. The weekend kicked off with a campus new building tour followed by a reception in the class’s original studio space, previously known as the “Apse” (now the Kleinman Forum). The reception included welcoming remarks from Dean Fritz Steiner (MRP’77, MA’86, PhD’86), as well as a presentation from some local alumni updating the group on the last decade's worth of demographic, economic, and built environment changes in Philadelphia.
The first heat wave of the summer didn’t keep the group from getting out! Saturday kicked off early with a bike share tour of Center City and its development boom, then onto the Martha Graham Cracker Cabaret for Kids show, followed by park tours for both the kids and adults (hello Parks on Tap!). The weekend came to a close with a River Wards neighborhood tour of the major changes that have occurred in Northern Liberties as well as in Fishtown since the group graduated, followed by a family-friendly evening reception at the new interactive PlayArts space.
A special thanks to the alumni led organizing committee, especially Sarah Fisher Curtin, MCP’09, Clint Randall, MCP’09, Emily Dowdall, MCP’09 and Christy Kwan, MCP’09 for planning this fun weekend of events!
Alumna Christy Kwan, MCP’09 shared these thoughts, “Along with some friends, we decided to organize a 10-year class reunion to reconnect with our fellow alumni. Going through the City Planning program was such an intense and rememberable experience. Though we have remained close and kept in touch, it was surreal to see almost everyone in the same study space but also the joy we had experiencing a new and vibrant Philadelphia together. Even after 10 years since graduation, it's like we never skipped a beat and continue to remember and make new memories together."
If this spotlight inspired you to bring your class together for a reunion gathering, please contact Liz Mairs, Associate Director of Annual Giving and Alumni Relations at emairs@design.upenn.edu or 215-746-3167.
Please make sure to save the date for Univeristy of Pennsylvania Stuart Weitzman School of Design alumni events during Homecoming Weekend (November 8-9, 2019) and next year’s Alumni Weekend (May 15-18, 2020).
