Peter Eisenman has been selected as the 2020 recipient of the Kanter Tritsch Medal in Architecture, and Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney will be receiving the 2020 Witte-Sakamoto Family Medal in City and Regional Planning on behalf of the City of Philadelphia for GreenPlan Philadelphia.
Along with the Medal winners, Paul McCoy (MArch'21) has been selected as the 2020 recipient of the Kanter Tritsch Prize in Energy and Architectural Innovation, and Avery Harmon (MCP'21) as the 2020 recipient of the Witte-Sakamoto Family Prize in City and Regional Planning. Both of these outstanding students have received a $50,000 scholarship for the 2020-2021 Academic Year.
The event will include live thought-provoking conversations with our award winners as they offer lessons from both public and private sectors about how to enhance the built environment and strengthen our communities through great design and planning.
While there is no cost to attend, all proceeds from the event will directly support student scholarships in architecture and city and regional planning at the Weitzman School, ensuring that the cost of attending the School is not a barrier for students of all backgrounds. About the Medalists:
Peter Eisenman is an internationally recognized architect and educator whose award-winning large-scale housing and urban design projects, innovative facilities for educational institutions, and series of inventive private houses attest to a career of excellence in design.
GreenPlan Philadelphia is a plan originally developed by WRT for the City of Philadelphia during the administration of former Mayor Michael Nutter. The ideas and strategies laid out in the GreenPlan have helped inform a variety of active programs in Philadelphia today, including Greenworks Philadelphia, Tree Philly, Green City, Clean Waters, and more. Together, these efforts are making Philadelphia a healthier, more vibrant and more climate resilient city that can thrive in the future.
