You can double or even triple the size of your gift if you or your spouse are affiliated with a company that has a matching gift program. To find out if your employer participates in a matching gift program, visit www.matchinggifts.com/uofpa.
To make a gift of appreciated securities, either yourself or your broker can contact Security Gifts by emailing stockgifts@lists.upenn.edu. Please include the following:
- Name of securities and number of shares
- Brokerage house / accounting firm, contact name, and phone number
- Your address, phone number, and email address
Donors of age 70½ and older may benefit from making a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) through their IRA. The amount of the QCD is excluded from a donor’s Adjusted Gross Income (AGI), and thus not subject to income tax; donors do not receive any income tax charitable deduction for the gift. For further assistance, contact us for an example letter to give to your IRA Administrator. Please remember to let your administrator know to include your name when they distribute the contribution.
The University of Pennsylvania is a 501(c)(3) organization and is eligible to receive gifts through donor-advised funds or private family foundations. To make a gift through a donor-advised fund, be sure to provide the University of Pennsylvania’s Tax ID/EIN. This important number is 23-1352685. Gifts should be made payable to the Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania. Please provide specific reference to the donor's name.
